Advertising policy

Who serves it, what it waits for, which pages never carry it, and the one thing it is never allowed to influence.

Who serves it

Advertising on this site is served by Google AdSense, operated by Google LLC. Domino Services Ltd. is the publisher and is responsible for where advertising may appear.

What it waits for

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, non-essential analytics and advertising storage stay disabled until the visitor consents. Where the European framework applies, a Google-certified consent management platform presents the choice and communicates it before a placement is requested. A page does not become an advertising page merely by having a space on it — if the signal does not permit it, nothing is requested.

You can change the decision at any time through the Privacy and cookie settings control in the footer, and you can turn off personalised advertising in your Google account settings independently of us.

What advertising may never influence

This site exists to state figures that can be traced to the authority that published them. So, without exception:

No advertiser influences a figure. A charge, a penalty, an hour or an emission standard comes from the authority's own document and nowhere else.
No advertiser influences what we cover. Which countries and cities are researched is decided by the plan, not by who would pay to appear beside them.
Nothing here is a paid placement in disguise. We publish no sponsored posts and no paid reviews. If that ever changes, it will be labelled where it appears.
An advertisement is never dressed as a fact. Advertising is visually separate from the content and is not woven into a scheme's own figures.

Which pages never carry advertising

Advertising is switched off by default and enabled per page, never the other way round. These never carry it:

error pages, and any page that could not answer the question it was asked;
the legal and policy pages, including this one;
internal and diagnostic endpoints;
any record that is empty, invalid, withheld or under re-verification;
any page too thin to be worth a reader's time — a scheme with fewer than two sourced facts does not get a page at all, let alone an advertisement on one.

What we ask of the advertising itself

We rely on Google LLC's policies for what may be served, and we do not knowingly permit advertising that is deceptive, that imitates this site's own content, or that claims to sell a permit, vignette or exemption that only an authority can issue. If you see one, tell us and we will report it.

Telling us about an advertisement

Write to contact at drivingdirections dot org with the page and what you saw. Because placements are personalised, we may not see what you saw — the page address and the time help more than anything else.
