How to get an exact figure

  1. Check the distance. It comes from your route when you arrive from the planner; otherwise enter it.
  2. Choose petrol, diesel, LPG or electric, and enter your car's real average consumption.
  3. Enter what you pay per litre or per kWh, in the currency you pay it in.
  4. Tick return trip if you are coming back the same way, and add the people sharing the cost.

Questions

How is the cost worked out?
Distance times consumption gives the fuel or energy used; that times your price gives the cost. A return trip doubles the distance, and the total can be split between the people travelling.
Which consumption figure should I use?
Your car's real average is better than the official figure, especially on motorways and in winter. Most cars show it on the trip computer.
Can I use miles per gallon?
Yes. Choose US or UK gallons; the calculator converts them. A UK gallon is larger than a US gallon, so the same mpg figure means different consumption.
Why are the starting values only examples?
Fuel and electricity prices change daily and differ by country and charger. We do not publish a price we cannot source, so the form starts from round examples and your own figures replace them.
