Not in force in Kalymnos right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 12:05 · Europe/Athens

  • Not in force Every vehicle on the municipal road running down to the square at Rina and on towards the little harbour, except those sign Ρ-55 admits by statute — emergency vehicles, and vehicles entering or leaving a property fronting that road

🚨 That this timetable repeats every year is a reading of the act, not a quotation from it. The act prints «από 15η Ιουλίου έως 15η Σεπτεμβρίου» with no year and no «κάθε έτους», where the Sifnos act from the same authority says «για κάθε έτος» where it means it. The reasons for reading it as annual are set out in `hours`. If the reading is wrong, this schedule says "in force" on evenings after the summer of 2026 when the road is open.

The window ends at midnight and is encoded as 19:30 to 00:00. The act writes «έως 24:00 π.μ.»; an end of 00:00 with a later start is how this project encodes a window that closes at the end of the day. It does not run into the small hours — there is no part of the following morning in this rule.

🚨 This timetable cannot tell you whether the rule has commenced. The act makes the measures effective from the installation of the signs and gives no date for that, so a verdict of "in force" here means "in force whenever the signs are up", not "in force since a day we know". That is why effective_from is null on this record.

This covers one road and nothing else on Kalymnos. A verdict of "in force" says the municipal road down to the square at Rina is closed at that moment; it says nothing about any other street in Vathy, in Pothia or anywhere else on the island, and we hold no boundary that could tell you which road you are on.

The exceptions cannot be seen by a timetable. Emergency vehicles and vehicles going in or out of a property on the closed road are admitted by the Highway Code's own definition of sign Ρ-55 at every hour the rule is in force, so for them the schedule over-warns in every window.

Public holidays are not encoded because the act does not mention them. It exempts no day, and 15 August falls inside the season and is one of the busiest evenings of the Greek year — expect the closure then, not an exemption.

Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.

What applies

For two months of the summer evening, one road on the Dodecanese island of Kalymnos closes to traffic.

The rule is the first clause of a decision of the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αιγαίου gazetted on 14 August 2026, and the sentence that carries it is short enough to quote whole: «Εγκρίνουμε την περιοδική πεζοδρόμηση, σύμφωνα με τα προβλεπόμενα στον ισχύων κανονισμό πεζοδρόμησης, στην δημοτική οδό που οδηγεί στην πλατεία της Ρίνας με κατεύθυνση προς το λιμανάκι στην περιοχή «Ρίνα» του Βαθύ Δήμου Καλυμνίων, κατά την περίοδο από 15η Ιουλίου έως 15η Σεπτεμβρίου από 19:30 μ.μ. έως 24:00 π.μ.» — the periodic pedestrianisation of the municipal road that leads to the square of Rina, heading towards the little harbour, in the Rina district of Vathy, from 15 July to 15 September, 19:30 to midnight. 🔑 This matters to a visitor more than its size suggests.

Vathy is the fjord on the east coast of Kalymnos that excursion boats and hire cars come to see, Rina is the hamlet at the head of it, and the road being closed is the one that runs down to the water where the tavernas are — so the closure lands exactly on the evening a visitor is most likely to drive there. ⚠️ The act orders one sign and prints its code as **P-55**, which the Greek Highway Code defines as a pedestrian street admitting only pedestrians, emergency vehicles and vehicles going in and out of a property on that road.

It also prints one surveyed point for it, in the Greek national grid, and nothing else of the geometry. 🚨 **The act does not say that the season repeats.** It writes the period as two calendar dates with no year and no «κάθε έτους», where the companion Sifnos act published three weeks earlier says «για κάθε έτος» in so many words.

This record reads it as annual — the dates carry no year, the signage ordered is permanent, and the act was gazetted on 14 August, a month into the first season, which a one-off reading would make close to pointless — but that is a reading, and `hours` says so rather than hiding it. ⚠️ And the rule had not necessarily started even in 2026: the third condition makes the measures effective «από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης», from the day the signs go up, and gives no date for that.

The decision of the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αιγαίου, signed at Piraeus on 7 August 2026 «Με εντολή Γραμματέα» by Κωνσταντίνος Ντουφεξής - Αμουργιανός, deputy head of the Διεύθυνση Τεχνικού Ελέγχου — the same authority and the same signer as the Antiparos and Sifnos records in this corpus. Clause 1 approves council decision 48/2026 and is this record; clause 2 approves council decision 50/2026 and is a parking ban elsewhere on the island, which is not

Daily charge

Nothing is charged and there is nothing to buy.

The clause closes a road for part of the evening and orders a sign; it sets no tariff, no permit, no resident's card and no fee, and neither does the rest of the act. ⚠️ Absence of a charge is not absence of a consequence — what driving in costs is in `penalty`, and it is a fine plus a licence measure rather than a ticket you can buy. 🔑 What this record cannot rule out is a permit or exemption route inside the municipality's own pedestrianisation regulation.

The clause closes with «σύμφωνα με τα προβλεπόμενα στον ισχύων κανονισμό πεζοδρόμησης» — in accordance with what the standing pedestrianisation regulation provides — and, unlike the Sifnos act which at least gave its regulation a council decision number, this one does not identify the regulation at all.

It is not reproduced in the gazette and it is not on the municipality's website: the Δήμος Καλύμνου site at kalymnos.gr answers its own search for «πεζοδρόμ» with three pages, all about refuse collection and a cultural centre, and none of them a traffic regulation. So this is the absence of a published charge rather than proof that no arrangement exists.

When it operates

Both halves are published, which makes this record unusual among the Greek seasonal closures in this corpus: the act prints the season **and** the clock, in one sentence — «κατά την περίοδο από 15η Ιουλίου έως 15η Σεπτεμβρίου από 19:30 μ.μ. έως 24:00 π.μ.». From 15 July to 15 September, from 19:30 until midnight, with no weekday named, which means every day inside the season.

Compare the companion acts: the Sifnos weight ban names an ωράριο and prints only the period, and the Antiparos zone prints no time expression at all. 🔑 «24:00 π.μ.» is read here as the end of the day and not as noon.

The publisher writes «19:30 μ.μ.» — 19:30 p.m. — and «24:00 π.μ.» — 24:00 a.m. — attaching a twelve-hour suffix to figures that are already on the twenty-four-hour clock, and in the second case the wrong one.

A window that ran from 19:30 to 24:00 is four and a half hours of one evening; nothing else the phrase could mean is a window at all. ⚠️ The suffixes are the publisher's and are quoted rather than corrected, and one of them is watched in that form. 🚨 **The act does not say the season repeats, and that is the one thing on this record that is a reading rather than a quotation.** It writes «κατά την περίοδο από 15η Ιουλίου έως 15η Σεπτεμβρίου» — two calendar dates, no year attached to either, and no «κάθε έτους» or «εκάστου έτους».

The Sifnos act, from the same authority and the same signer three weeks earlier, does print «για κάθε έτος» where it means it, so the omission here cannot be treated as a house style.

Three things point the other way and are why this record encodes the season as annual: dates without a year are calendar dates rather than a single summer; the act orders permanent vertical signage «μαζί με τις απαραίτητες πρόσθετες πληροφοριακές πινακίδες για την περίοδο και το ωράριο εφαρμογής», supplementary plates stating the period and the hours, which is the shape of a rule meant to be read again next year; and the decision was signed on 7 August and gazetted on 14 August 2026, a month into the very season it regulates, which on a one-off reading would leave it four weeks of life. ⚠️ If the reading is wrong, this record over-warns in future summers — it tells you a road is closed that is open.

It does not under-warn, and that is the direction an error here should point. 🚨 **And the rule may not have commenced at all.** The third condition makes the measures effective «από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης, των σηματοδοτών ή των διαγραμμίσεων στο οδόστρωμα» — from the installation of the signs, the signals or the road markings — with no date attached, which is why `effective_from` is null. ⚠️ Public holidays are not mentioned anywhere in the act, so nothing in it lifts the closure on one; 15 August, the Assumption and one of the busiest evenings of the Greek year, falls inside the season.

Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο (National Printing House) — Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως, ΦΕΚ Β' 5197/14.08.2026, second item, clause 1, for the season, the hours and the supplementary-plate sentence, and the third of the act's seven conditions for the commencement rule

Area covered

One road, described in a line of prose, and one surveyed point. The act regulates «την δημοτική οδό που οδηγεί στην πλατεία της Ρίνας με κατεύθυνση προς το λιμανάκι στην περιοχή «Ρίνα» του Βαθύ Δήμου Καλυμνίων» — the municipal road that leads to the square of Rina in the direction of the little harbour, in the Rina district of Vathy.

Vathy is the long inlet on the east coast of Kalymnos and Rina is the settlement at the head of it, where the road meets the water. 🔑 The geometry the act publishes is a single one-row table, headed ΠΕΡΙΟΔΙΚΗ ΠΕΖΟΔΡΟΜΗΣΗ ΡΙΝΑ with the columns Χ, Ψ and ΠΙΝΑΚΙΔΑ: 769202, 4096082, sign P-55, in ΕΓΣΑ 87, the Greek national grid in metres.

The act calls its coordinates «ενδεικτικές», indicative. ⚠️ **One point is a signpost, not an extent.** It says which approach is signed; it does not say where the closure begins, where it ends, or whether the other ways onto that road are signed at all. «The road that leads to the square» has a direction but no stated length. 🔑 What the sign code means is the clearest description of the closure available, because the act's own words are a single clause while the code is defined by statute. ν.

5209/2025 article 7 defines **Ρ-55** as «Οδός υποχρεωτικής διέλευσης πεζών (πεζόδρομος, απαγορευμένης της διέλευσης άλλων εκτός πεζών, οχημάτων άμεσης ανάγκης και οχημάτων για την είσοδο - έξοδο σε παρόδιες ιδιοκτησίες)» — a pedestrian street that still admits emergency vehicles and vehicles going in and out of a property on it. 🚨 **The act prints that code with a Latin P and the Ρ-40 of its other clause with a Greek Ρ, on the same page.** Both forms were measured on this file on 2026-09-23 and each fails in the other alphabet; the watched string keeps the Latin form the publisher used, and it must not be tidied. 🔑 The coordinate was converted out of the Greek grid as a check on which geocoder candidate to anchor the city to — it lands about 4.4 km north-east of the town of Kalymnos, on the east coast, which is Vathy and confirms the reading of the table.

That conversion is a candidate check and appears nowhere on this record; no derived latitude or longitude is published as the municipality's.

Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο (National Printing House) — Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως, ΦΕΚ Β' 5197/14.08.2026, second item, clause 1, for the description of the road and the coordinate table; read together with ν. 5209/2025 (ΦΕΚ Α' 100/13.06.2025) article 7 §5, which defines sign Ρ-55

Why there is no map here
The published extent is one prose clause and one surveyed point: «την δημοτική οδό που οδηγεί στην πλατεία της Ρίνας με κατεύθυνση προς το λιμανάκι» and 769202 4096082 in ΕΓΣΑ 87, which the act itself calls «ενδεικτικές». Our boundary contract is a MultiPolygon, and a single coordinate locates a signpost rather than an area. Turning it into one would mean inventing both the course and the length of a road we have never measured, and both would be our line rather than the municipality's. This is the thinnest of the three Aegean cases: Antiparos gave two points per zone, «Αρχή» and «Τέλος», which at least describe a line; Sifnos gave one point per closure across six settlements; here there is one point for the whole scheme. 🚫 It does NOT heal by reading the gazette more carefully: the one-row table is the whole of the published geometry, the issue carries no site plan for this item, and the text is fully readable (scripts/check-strings.mjs on 2026-09-23: «holds», 6 content streams). ✅ It heals if the Δήμος Καλυμνίων publishes the technical service's study as geometry, or if a later act replaces «the road that leads to the square» with a described length or a list of signed approaches. ⚠️ Neither could be asked for in this cycle: kalymnos.gr is open to read and was read, and it carries neither the study, nor the standing pedestrianisation regulation the act defers to, nor any announcement of this closure. map_url therefore points at the gazette issue itself, which is where the published extent actually is — as one row of one small table rather than as a drawing, and a reader should know that before clicking.

The authority's own map: Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αιγαίου / Δήμος Καλυμνίων, Διεύθυνση Τεχνικών Υπηρεσιών…

Petrol standard

This scheme sets no emission threshold, and the absence is structural rather than unrecorded. The clause asks one question about a vehicle — whether it is on that road in those hours — and asks nothing about what comes out of the exhaust. A Euro 6 car is barred exactly as a Euro 1 one is.

Greece publishes no national low-emission scheme of the Italian or German kind that this project has read, and this record makes no claim either way about one.

Diesel standard

The same as for petrol, and for the same structural reason: the act contains no emission class of any kind, for any fuel. What decides whether you are in this scheme is where you are and what time it is.

Penalty if you do not comply
€350.00 The act prints no figure at all; every number here is read from the statute, and the Code reaches the same car on the same road through two provisions an order of magnitude apart. 🚨 **We publish the higher one.** The act calls the measure a «πεζοδρόμηση» and signs it Ρ-55, which makes the road a πεζόδρομος; article 20 §4 of ν. 5209/2025 forbids a driver to circulate «σε πλατείες, πεζόδρομους, πεζοδρόμια, νησίδες ασφαλείας…»; article 20 §8 β) puts that breach in category Ε3-Β and in category Σ; and article 108 §5 γ) γα) prices Ε3 at «διοικητικό πρόστιμο τριακοσίων πενήντα (350) ευρώ». The money is the smaller half: γβ) adds withdrawal of the driving licence **and of the vehicle's registration documents for thirty days**, and δ) adds a further forty days' withdrawal of the licence for the category Σ classification. For a hire car, a measure against the registration documents is a measure against papers that are not yours, and the Code does not say how a rental company's documents are treated, so neither does this record. 🔑 **The cheaper route is real and is stated here rather than buried.** Article 7 §11 ζ) classifies non-compliance with sign Ρ-55 in category Ε1-Α and in category Σ, which article 108 §5 α) αα) prices at €30, with the forty-day licence measure still attached. Whether an officer reads the act's word or the sign on the post is not something this record can decide, and nothing we hold decides it. 🔑 Stopping or parking on a pedestrian street, as opposed to driving along one, is a different and smaller offence again: article 38 §2 ι) with §11 α), category Ε1-Α, €30, halved for mopeds and motorcycles. ⚠️ This is the same analysis the Sifnos records carry for the same sign, re-read from the Code for this record rather than copied across, and it reaches the same place because the sign and the word are the same. What differs is that on Sifnos three of the six closures are signed Ρ-7 rather than Ρ-55 and are a cheaper offence; here there is one road and one sign, and no such split.Source: Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο, read 2026-09-23

Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο (National Printing House) — Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως, ΦΕΚ Α' 100/13.06.2025: ν. 5209/2025 «Κώδικας Οδικής Κυκλοφορίας», the Highway Code in force since 13 September 2025 and the Code this act proceeds under — the act's own preamble cites articles 55, 111 and 112 of it. Article 7 §5 defines sign Ρ-55 and §11 ζ) classifies non-compliance with it in category Ε1-Α and in category Σ; article 20 §4 prohibits driving on a πεζόδρομος and §8 β) puts that in Ε3-Β and in Σ; article 38 §2 ι) with §11 α) covers stopping and parking on one; and article 108 §5 sets the whole tariff — Ε1-Α €30, Ε1-Β €30 plus ten days, Ε2-Α €150, Ε2-Β €150 plus twenty days, Ε3-Α €350, Ε3-Β €350 plus thirty days' withdrawal of licence and registration documents, and category Σ a further forty days' withdrawal of the licence

How to comply
  • Between 15 July and 15 September, do not drive down to the square at Rina after 19:30. The closure runs from 19:30 until midnight, every day of the week, and the road it closes is the municipal road that leads to the square and on towards the little harbour — the one you would take to reach the waterfront tavernas at Vathy.
  • Outside those two months the road is an ordinary road at every hour, and outside those hours it is an ordinary road on every day of the season. There is no morning restriction and no afternoon one.
  • Park before the closed stretch and walk down. Vathy is small, the regulated length is one road, and the act's whole purpose is to give the evening at the head of the inlet to people on foot.
  • ⚠️ If the post is bare, the rule has not started yet. The act's third condition makes the measures effective «από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης, των σηματοδοτών ή των διαγραμμίσεων στο οδόστρωμα» — from the installation of the signs — and gives no date for that. It was gazetted on 14 August 2026, a month into the season it regulates.
  • 🚨 We cannot promise you the season repeats. The act writes the period as two calendar dates with no year and does not say «κάθε έτους», where the parallel Sifnos act does. This page treats it as annual and explains why on the record; in a summer after 2026, read the plate under the sign before you trust the dates here.
  • Read the plate under the sign for the authoritative hours. The act orders supplementary informational plates carrying «την περίοδο και το ωράριο εφαρμογής» — the period and the hours — so the road itself carries the same two facts this page does. If the plate says something different, the plate is what an officer reads.
  • You are admitted if you live or are staying on that road. Sign Ρ-55 is defined by the Highway Code as admitting pedestrians, emergency vehicles and «οχημάτων για την είσοδο - έξοδο σε παρόδιες ιδιοκτησίες» — vehicles going in and out of a property fronting the street. If your accommodation is on the closed stretch, that is the exemption you are relying on, and it is statutory rather than something the municipality grants you.
  • ⚠️ The cost of getting it wrong is up to €350 plus licence measures. Driving along a pedestrian street is a category Ε3-Β breach of the Greek Highway Code: €350, thirty days' withdrawal of the driving licence and of the vehicle's registration documents, and a further forty days for the category Σ classification. Disobeying the Ρ-55 sign is reachable as a €30 offence instead, and nothing we hold decides which an officer will use — assume the worse one.
  • ⚠️ One signed point is published and the act does not say it is the only way in. The coordinate table has a single row, at Greek grid 769202 4096082. Treat an unsigned approach onto that road as unresolved rather than as permitted.
  • There is nothing to buy and nowhere to buy it. No permit, no exemption procedure and no charge appears anywhere in the act — but note that the clause defers to a standing municipal pedestrianisation regulation which the act does not identify and which the municipality does not publish, so this is the absence of a published permit rather than proof that no arrangement exists. If you need vehicle access, ask the Δήμος Καλυμνίων directly.
  • ⚠️ The municipality's website will not confirm any of this. kalymnos.gr is the Δήμος Καλύμνου site and is open to read, but its own search returns nothing on this closure and nothing on the pedestrianisation regulation the act defers to. This record rests on the national gazette and on the Highway Code. If a sign on the ground says something different from this page, the sign is the law.
