Driving in Kamatero: Heavy vehicle ban

Kamatero, Greece · Heavy vehicle ban

— the decision of the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αττικής approving decision 287/2020 of the Δημοτικό Συμβούλιο του Δήμου Αγίων Αναργύρων - Καματερού, signed at Athens on 19 May 2022, the first item of ΦΕΚ Β' 2704/01.06.2022

What applies

Kamatero is the northern half of the municipality of Άγιοι Ανάργυροι - Καματερό, on the western edge of the Athens basin under Mount Aigaleo.

On 1 June 2022 the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αττικής gazetted its approval of the town council's regulatory decision 287/2020, and the whole operative clause is one sentence: «Την έγκριση της κανονιστικής απόφασης σχετικά με την απαγόρευση της εισόδου σε οχήματα ωφέλιμου φορτίου άνω του 1,5 τόνου στην οδό Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου στη Δ.Κ.Κ.» — no entry, on οδός Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου, for vehicles whose payload exceeds 1.5 tonnes. 🚨 THE THRESHOLD IS PAYLOAD, AND THAT IS NOT THE USUAL QUESTION. «Ωφέλιμο φορτίο» is the load a vehicle is rated to carry, not what the vehicle weighs empty and not what it weighs loaded.

Every other weight-based record in this corpus is keyed to gross weight — Agios Nikolaos and Sifnos both say «συνολικού βάρους» — and a van rated to carry 1.6 tonnes can have a gross weight well under 3.5. 🚫 So do not convert this figure into a gross-weight figure, and do not read a 3.5-tonne habit into it.

The act asks one question and it asks it about the payload line on the vehicle's papers. ⚠️ AND THE HIGHWAY CODE HAS NO SIGN FOR THAT QUESTION. Measured on ν.

5209/2025 on 2026-09-25: article 7 §3 defines Ρ-21 by width, Ρ-22 by height, Ρ-23 by «συνολικού βάρους», Ρ-24 by «βάρους ανά άξονα» and Ρ-25 by length, and the tonnage plate under Ρ-13 is defined as «το μέγιστο επιτρεπόμενο βάρος του οχήματος ή του συνδυασμού οχημάτων» — maximum permissible weight. The string «φέλιμ» does not occur anywhere in the 476 629 characters of the Code this project can read.

The municipality has therefore made a rule whose measure its national sign catalogue does not carry, and the act does not say which sign will stand on the street. That is why this record prices no fine (see `penalty`) and why the practical advice below is to read the sign on the post rather than to trust the tonne figure to appear on it.

Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο — Εφημερίδα της Κυβερνήσεως, ΦΕΚ Β' 2704/01.06.2022, the first item of the issue: the decision of the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Αττικής approving decision 287/2020 of the Δημοτικό Συμβούλιο του Δήμου Αγίων Αναργύρων - Καματερού — the whole operative clause and the recitals that name the council decision and the municipal traffic study behind it

Daily charge

Nothing is charged and there is nothing to buy. The measure is a κανονιστική απόφαση approved under article 52 of the Highway Code; its operative word is «απαγόρευση της εισόδου», a prohibition of entry, and a vehicle over the payload limit is barred rather than priced.

No permit, sticker, registration, exemption or resident scheme appears anywhere in the act — not in the operative sentence and not in any of the nine conditions attached to the approval. 🚫 Do not read the absence of a price as free access: there is no price because there is no way to buy your way in.

When it operates

None. The operative sentence carries no clock, no weekday, no season and no exempted class: «απαγόρευση της εισόδου σε οχήματα ωφέλιμου φορτίου άνω του 1,5 τόνου στην οδό Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου στη Δ.Κ.Κ.». Treat it as all day, every day. 🔑 The absence is the act's own rather than a gap in what was read, and that distinction is checkable here.

This gazette issue's Kamatero item was read in full on 2026-09-25 — the approval sentence, the nine conditions and the signature block — and the only times of day anywhere in it are absent. ⚠️ The one thing the act does not settle is delivery access: many Greek municipal restrictions of this shape carry a supply-vehicle window, and this one does not.

That is what the page says; it is not a statement that deliveries never happen on the street.

Area covered

One street: «η οδός Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου», and only the part of it that lies «στη Δ.Κ.Κ.» The act gives no end points, no coordinate table and no map — the unit of measurement is the street within one community, not a stretch of it. 🚨 THERE ARE AT LEAST THREE STREETS OF THIS NAME WITHIN SIX KILOMETRES, IN THREE DIFFERENT MUNICIPALITIES, AND ONLY ONE OF THEM IS THE SUBJECT OF THIS ACT.

Overpass, queried on 2026-09-25 over the western Athens basin, returns ways named «Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου» in several separate places.

Three were put through the containment check the same day: · 38.05640, 23.72527 → Δημοτική Ενότητα Καματερού, Δήμος Αγίων Αναργύρων – Καματερού ✅ this one · 38.05970, 23.73484 → Δημοτική Ενότητα Αχαρνών, Δήμος Αχαρνών — a different municipality, 2.6 km away · 38.04175, 23.68427 → Δήμος Πετρούπολης — a different municipality, 2.2 km away The municipality that made this rule is Δήμος Αγίων Αναργύρων – Καματερού, and it appears in exactly one of those three stacks. 🚫 A reader who matched the street by name alone would have put the restriction in Acharnes or Petroupoli, neither of which approved it. 🔑 THE ABBREVIATION «Δ.Κ.Κ.» IS NOT EXPANDED BY THE PUBLISHER, and this record does not expand it either — it reports what the containment measurement found.

The act prints «Δ.Κ.Κ.» once and never writes the words out. The municipality has two communities, Αγίων Αναργύρων and Καματερού, and the street segment that lies inside this municipality lies inside Δημοτική Ενότητα Καματερού.

That is the ground for placing the record at Kamatero. ⚠️ It is an identification by measurement, not a quotation: if a future reader finds the publisher expanding the abbreviation differently, the measurement is what has to be re-run. ⚠️ What this record does not know is how far along the street the signs actually stand, or whether the street continues past the municipal boundary under the same name.

The act hands the placing of signs to the municipality's technical service — «με την υπόδειξη της Τεχνικής Υπηρεσίας» — and prints no diagram.

Why there is no map here
No geometry of any kind is published for this measure. The act locates the restriction by street name and community abbreviation alone — «στην οδό Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου στη Δ.Κ.Κ.» — with no end points, no ΕΓΣΑ 87 coordinate table and no map. Measured on 2026-09-25: the eight-page ΦΕΚ Β' 2704/01.06.2022 is 163 612 bytes and yields 29 180 characters of text, and the Kamatero item contains no coordinate pair anywhere. 🚫 The city-level warning stands rather than an outline: one street is not the town, and drawing the municipality's administrative shape would overstate a single-street ban by a very wide margin. ⚠️ A further reason not to draw anything here is in the `area` field — the street name recurs in two neighbouring municipalities, so a generous outline would not merely be too big, it would collide with streets the act does not regulate.
Petrol standard

This scheme sets no emission threshold, and the absence is structural rather than unrecorded. The measure asks one question about a vehicle — does its rated payload exceed 1.5 tonnes — and that question has no emission component. No Euro class, no fuel type and no registration year appears anywhere in the act.

A Euro 6 van over the limit is barred and a Euro 2 car under it is not.

Diesel standard

The same as for petrol, and for the same structural reason: the act contains no emission class of any kind, for any fuel. ⚠️ Worth saying explicitly for diesel, because a reader arriving from this corpus's Italian and Spanish pages will expect a diesel-specific rung and there is none here. Payload is the whole test.

Penalty if you do not comply

No figure, and the chain that would produce one was followed and then deliberately stopped — which is a different outcome from this corpus's other Greek weight records, and the reason is worth reading before anyone 'fixes' it. The act itself prints no penalty and no sign code.

For the Agios Nikolaos record the missing code could still be recovered, because that act printed the Highway Code's own sign LEGEND word for word («οχήματα συνολικού βάρους άνω των 3,5τ.» is Ρ-23 with the blank filled in), and from the code onwards ν. 5209/2025 prints the rest: article 7 §11 ε) gives the category, article 108 §5 β) gives the amount. 🚨 HERE THE LEGEND MATCHES NOTHING.

Measured on ν. 5209/2025 on 2026-09-25, article 7 §3 defines the prohibitory signs by width (Ρ-21), height (Ρ-22), «συνολικού βάρους» (Ρ-23), «βάρους ανά άξονα» (Ρ-24) and length (Ρ-25); Ρ-13's tonnage plate is defined as «το μέγιστο επιτρεπόμενο βάρος του οχήματος ή του συνδυασμού οχημάτων»; and the string «φέλιμ» does not occur in the 476 629 characters of the Code this project can read.

There is no sign in the catalogue keyed to ωφέλιμο φορτίο.

So the act's measure cannot be mapped onto a sign, the sign decides the offence category, and the category decides the money. 🚫 Picking Ρ-23 anyway — because it is the nearest, or because the other Greek record uses it — would be inventing the one link in the chain that is missing, and it would be inventing it in the direction that reads a payload limit as a gross-weight limit.

The correct answer for a driver is that a violation here is an offence under the Highway Code and that the amount depends on the sign the municipality actually erected, which this project has not seen and the gazette does not name. ⚠️ Nor does this record claim the Code is the only source of consequence for a goods vehicle: ν. 3446/2006, on road-transport enforcement, was not read for this record.

How to comply
  • Look up your vehicle's rated payload — «ωφέλιμο φορτίο» — on its registration papers. That is the number this restriction uses. It is not the kerb weight, not the gross weight and not what you happen to be carrying today.
  • If the rated payload is 1.5 tonnes or less, this scheme does not apply to you on any day, at any hour. An ordinary car, a small van and a motorcycle are outside it entirely.
  • If it is over 1.5 tonnes, do not enter οδός Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου in Kamatero. The act sets no hours, so treat the ban as all day, every day, and plan the street out of the route rather than timing a run through it.
  • 🚨 Make sure you have the right Γρηγορίου Αυξεντίου. There are streets of that name in neighbouring Acharnes and Petroupoli, about two and a half kilometres away in each direction, and this restriction applies to neither of them. The one that is regulated is the one inside the municipality of Άγιοι Ανάργυροι - Καματερό.
  • ⚠️ Read the sign on the post, not the tonne figure you expect to see on it. The Greek Highway Code has no prohibitory sign keyed to payload; its weight signs are keyed to gross weight (Ρ-23) and to weight per axle (Ρ-24). Whatever plate the municipality erected, it is the instrument you are enforced against, and the act does not say which one it is.
  • The approval's own condition puts the measure on the ground before it binds: «Τα μέτρα που λαμβάνονται με την παρούσα απόφαση να ισχύουν από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης, των σηματοδοτών ή των διαγραμμίσεων στο οδόστρωμα». Signs on the street are what tell you the ban is live; no publisher has dated their placing.
