Not in force in Platanias right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 12:05 · Europe/Athens

  • Not in force Every vehicle on the coastal road of Πλατανιάς, in the sections on either side of the Επαρχιακή οδός. The act orders sign Ρ-55, which the Greek Highway Code defines as admitting pedestrians, emergency vehicles and vehicles going in or out of a property on that street; those three carve-outs cannot be expressed as a timetable and are set out in the practical notes on this page. No supplementary plate naming a class of vehicle is ordered — the only supplementary plate in the act is the one that repeats the hours and the months.

🚨 THIS TIMETABLE CANNOT TELL YOU WHERE THE CLOSURE BEGINS AND ENDS, BECAUSE THE ACT DOES NOT. It closes «τα τμήματα εκατέρωθεν της Επαρχιακής οδού» — the sections on either side of the provincial road — and names neither road, gives the provincial road no number, and publishes no drawing. A verdict of "in force" here is a verdict about the evening, not about a particular metre of asphalt. Read the signs and the barriers when you get there.

⚠️ The annual recurrence is an inference, not a quotation. The act names two months without a year and does not write «κάθε έτους». If the municipality treats 2026 as a one-off, this timetable will be wrong from July 2027 onwards, and nothing in the file would say so. That is why this record is marked for re-reading in December 2026, before the next season.

🚨 This timetable cannot tell you whether the rule has commenced. Condition 3 makes the measures effective «από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης, εκτός αν κατά το χρόνο ισχύος των μέτρων αυτών η κυκλοφορία ρυθμίζεται από στελέχη της αρμόδιας Αστυνομικής Αρχής» — from the placing of the signs, unless an officer is directing traffic at the time. No publisher has dated the placing, and a police officer on the shore overrides the sign in either direction.

The window is encoded 21:00 to 00:00 and does not cross midnight. The publisher writes it «21:00 έως 24:00 μ.μ.»; the small hours belong to the following day and are open.

Public holidays are not encoded, because the act does not mention them. It exempts no day, and 15 August — the busiest holiday of the Greek summer — falls squarely inside the season.

This covers the coastal road of Πλατανιάς and nothing else in Δήμος Νοτίου Πηλίου. The same issue of the gazette carries a second act of the same municipality, for Άγιος Γεώργιος in the same Δημοτική Ενότητα Σηπιάδος, and it is a no-stopping and no-parking order rather than a closure: it belongs to no timetable here.

⚠️ Three carve-outs sit inside sign Ρ-55 itself and none of them is a time. Emergency vehicles and access to a property on the street are permitted at every hour of the closure by the Highway Code's definition of the sign, so an "in force" verdict over-warns anyone in those two categories. It errs towards keeping a driver off the road, which is the safe direction, and it is stated rather than hidden.

Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.

What applies

Πλατανιάς is a small beach settlement at the southern tip of Pelion, at the end of the road down from Προμύρι — the far end of the peninsula from Volos, and a very long way from the Πλατανιάς most visitors have heard of, which is in Crete. For two months of the year its shore road stops being a road in the evening.

From 1 July to 31 August, between 21:00 and midnight, the coastal road is a pedestrian street: «Η περιοδική πεζοδρόμηση της παραλιακής οδού στα τμήματα εκατέρωθεν της Επαρχιακής οδού τους θερινούς μήνες Ιούλιο- Αύγουστο για το χρονικό διάστημα 21:00 έως 24:00 μ.μ.».

The measure is decision 106/2026 of the municipal council of Δήμος Νοτίου Πηλίου, approved by the Γραμματέας of the Αποκεντρωμένη Διοίκηση Θεσσαλίας - Στερεάς Ελλάδας at Λάρισα on 25 August 2026 and gazetted three days later. 🔑 The sign is the thing to know, because it carries the exemptions the act itself never lists.

The order is for Ρ-55 signs, and the Greek Highway Code defines Ρ-55 as a pedestrian street «απαγορευμένης της διέλευσης άλλων εκτός πεζών, οχημάτων άμεσης ανάγκης και οχημάτων για την είσοδο - έξοδο σε παρόδιες ιδιοκτησίες» — closed to everything except pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and vehicles going in or out of a property on the street.

If you have a room on the shore road you may still reach it; a passing car has no business there after nine. 🚨 And the price of getting that wrong is the strangest number this corpus has published.

Measured on the Code today: a Ρ-55 breach is category Ε1-Α, which is a thirty-euro fine — the smallest in the whole tariff — and it is *also* category Σ, antisocial road behaviour, which adds forty days without a driving licence. Thirty euros and forty days. The same corpus's Karpathos closure, which uses the no-entry sign Ρ-7 instead, costs €150 and twenty days.

The cheaper ticket is the one that takes your licence for twice as long. ⚠️ Two things this record cannot tell you, and says so rather than filling in. The act does not name the coastal road, does not number the Επαρχιακή οδός, and does not publish the study and drawings that would say where the two sections begin and end.

And it does not write «κάθε έτους», «of each year», where its Thira and Karpathos counterparts do — so the season is treated as annual here for the reasons set out in the timetable on this page, not because the act says it. 🔑 The same gazette issue carries a second act of the same municipality for the neighbouring settlement of Άγιος Γεώργιος, and that one is deliberately not a page here: it is a no-stopping and no-parking order on the open ground by the church, sign Ρ-40, which is a parking rule and not a driving restriction.

Daily charge

Nothing is charged and there is nothing to buy. The act approves a κυκλοφοριακή ρύθμιση — a traffic regulation — and creates no permit, no day ticket, no residents' scheme and no exemption that has to be applied for.

No figure of any kind appears in it apart from the clock. ⚠️ The one thing that functions as an exemption is not a purchase: Ρ-55 admits vehicles going in and out of a property on the street by the Highway Code's own definition of the sign, with no document and no fee.

When it operates

Nine in the evening until midnight, every day, for July and August: «τους θερινούς μήνες Ιούλιο- Αύγουστο για το χρονικό διάστημα 21:00 έως 24:00 μ.μ.». ⚠️ The clock is set the way the publisher sets it, «21:00 έως 24:00 μ.μ.», with a redundant μ.μ. — p.m. — on a 24-hour figure; that is the gazette's own wording and not a transcription slip.

The window does not cross midnight: it ends at the end of the day, and it is encoded here as 21:00 to 00:00, which is the form this corpus uses for a window that closes at midnight. 🔑 Two months, and both whole.

Unlike the Thira and Karpathos closures in this corpus, which open and close in the middle of a month and need split-month exceptions, this one names calendar months: the whole of July and the whole of August are in, and the other ten months are out at every hour. ⚠️ The act does not write «κάθε έτους».

Its siblings do — Thira's says «καθε ετους» in so many words — and this one does not, so the annual recurrence is an inference and is stated as one.

What it rests on: the signing ordered is permanent («Η τοποθέτηση ρυθμιστικών πινακίδων Ρ-55»), the informational plate ordered alongside it is to carry «οι ώρες και οι μήνες που ισχύει ο περιορισμός» rather than dates of one particular summer, the months carry no year, and the measure is called «περιοδική» — periodic — in the act's own words. 🚫 None of that is the act saying «each year», and this record is marked for re-reading well before next July so that the point is checked again rather than inherited. ⚠️ Commencement is not given.

Condition 3 applies the measures «να ισχύουν από την τοποθέτηση των οικείων πινακίδων σήμανσης» — from the placing of the signs — and no publisher has dated that, which is why this record states no date on which the scheme took effect.

Area covered

Two stretches of one shore road, and the act identifies them by the road that crosses them rather than by name: «Η περιοδική πεζοδρόμηση της παραλιακής οδού στα τμήματα εκατέρωθεν της Επαρχιακής οδού» — the coastal road, in the sections on either side of the Provincial Road.

That is the whole of the published extent. 🚫 No street is named anywhere in the act, the Επαρχιακή οδός carries no number, and the two sections have no stated length, so this record publishes no boundary and no endpoints. 🔑 What the act does publish instead is where the furniture goes, and that is the best description of the shape available: Ρ-55 signs at «στην είσοδο των περιοδικών πεζόδρομων, στις καθέτους στο αριστερό παραλιακό τμήμα και στην πλάγια οδό στο δεξί παραλιακό τμήμα» — at the entrances of the periodic pedestrian streets, at the side streets perpendicular to the left-hand coastal section, and on the side road of the right-hand section — with movable metal barriers at the pedestrian-street entrances and cones at the perpendicular streets.

So: a left section fed by several perpendicular lanes, a right section fed by one side road, and the provincial road arriving between them. ⚠️ The drawings exist and are not published.

The approval rests on «την μελέτη και τα σχέδια που επισυνάπτονται στο 18 σχετικό» — the study and the drawings attached to the eighteenth item of its recitals — and condition 7 binds the municipality to what council decision 106/2026 approved.

Neither the study nor the drawings are in the gazette, and no other publisher carries them either, so there is no map of this closure to show. ⚠️ And a map will not fill the gap either.

Measured against OpenStreetMap on 2026-09-28, the whole settlement contains 46 highway ways and exactly ONE of them carries a name: «Προμύρι - Πλατανιάς», a secondary road carrying no route number, which is the road arriving from the village above and is almost certainly the act's Επαρχιακή οδός — but OSM does not label it as one, and the shore road itself is unnamed on the map as well as in the act.

Why there is no map here
The act names drawings and no publisher carries them, and this time the search for a second publisher has a measured floor. What the act names: «την μελέτη και τα σχέδια που επισυνάπτονται στο 18 σχετικό» — the study and the drawings attached to its eighteenth recital — with condition 7 binding the municipality to council decision 106/2026. ⚠️ The gazette does not carry them: measured on 2026-09-28 the eight-page issue yields 28 364 characters of text from 9 content streams with nothing falling back to a guessed encoding and no unresolved drawing object, so there is nothing in it to open and rule unusable — there is nothing in it. 🚫 THE SECOND-PUBLISHER RULE WAS APPLIED AND THERE IS NO SECOND PUBLISHER. The municipal decision is identified in Διαύγεια (ΑΔΑ 9ΠΒ0ΩΚΧ-ΟΟΒ, protocol 12519, issued 2026-06-30, unit ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΟ ΣΥΜΒΟΥΛΙΟ, and its gazette field empty) but its text sits under the document path that register's own robots.txt closes to us — and its open metadata endpoint answers HTTP 200 with an empty attachment list, so the register is not withholding the drawings behind a wall, it does not hold them. And the municipality's own site publishes nothing at all: www.dimosnotioupiliou.gr allows crawling almost everywhere, and its whole advertised sitemap is THREE URLs — the home page, a contact page and a privacy policy. A site search for «Πλατανιά» returns no content result. So the drawings are absent from every channel this project may lawfully read, and the absence is a measurement rather than a guess. 🚫 Drawing the municipality relation instead would be wrong by three orders of magnitude: relation/2242285 is 33.15 km north to south and 26.31 km east to west, and this measure is two stretches of one shore road. The city-level warning stands, and the extent is stated in the act's words.

Petrol standard

This scheme sets no emission threshold, and the absence is structural rather than unrecorded: it is a seasonal pedestrianisation under the Greek Highway Code, not a low-emission zone. The act contains no Euro class, no fuel type and no vehicle age. A brand-new car and a twenty-year-old one are treated identically — both are simply not allowed on the shore road between 21:00 and midnight in July and August.

Diesel standard

The same as for petrol, and for the same structural reason: the act contains no emission class of any kind, for any fuel. ⚠️ Worth stating separately for diesel, because a reader arriving from this corpus's Italian or German pages will expect a diesel-specific rung and there is none here. An electric car is inside this closure too.

Penalty if you do not comply
€350.00 €350, plus thirty days without the driving licence AND the vehicle's registration documents, plus a further forty days without the licence. The act prints no figure, and the Code offers two routes to one whose answers differ by more than a factor of ten — so read both before the number. 🚨 THE ROUTE THAT GOVERNS IS THE STREET, NOT THE PLATE. ν. 5209/2025 article 20 §4 forbids a driver to circulate «σε πλατείες, πεζόδρομους, πεζοδρόμια, νησίδες ασφαλείας … εκτός από περιπτώσεις απολύτου ανάγκης ή όταν ειδικές ρυθμίσεις το επιτρέπουν»; article 20 §8 β) classifies that breach «στην κατηγορία Ε3-Β και στην κατηγορία Σ»; article 108 §5 γ) γα) prices Ε3-Α at «διοικητικό πρόστιμο τριακοσίων πενήντα (350) ευρώ», γβ) adds for Ε3-Β «το διοικητικό μέτρο αφαίρεσης της άδειας οδήγησης και των στοιχείων κυκλοφορίας του οχήματος για τριάντα (30) ημέρες», and §5 δ) adds for category Σ «επιπρόσθετα και το διοικητικό μέτρο αφαίρεσης της άδειας οδήγησης του οδηγού για σαράντα (40) ημέρες». 🔑 THE PLATE ROUTE IS THE CHEAP ONE, AND IT IS PRINTED HERE RATHER THAN HIDDEN. Article 7 §11 ζ) puts non-compliance with «τις πινακίδες Ρ-33, Ρ-54, Ρ-55, Ρ-56, …» in category Ε1-Α **and** in category Σ, and article 108 §5 α) αα) prices Ε1-Α at «διοικητικό πρόστιμο τριάντα (30) ευρώ» — the lowest amount in the whole tariff — plus the same forty days. 🚨 IT IS ALSO NOT THE SAME PLATE ANSWER AS THE SIBLING RECORD, AND THAT CONTRAST STANDS: the Karpathos closure uses sign Ρ-7, which article 7 §11 ε) puts in Ε2-Β at €150 plus twenty days; this one uses Ρ-55 and costs €30 plus forty as a plate offence. Copying the Karpathos figures here would still be wrong in both directions at once. 🔑 WHAT DECIDES BETWEEN €30 AND €350 IS THE CODE'S OWN DEFINITION OF THE PLATE. Article 7 defines it in one breath: «ξ) Ρ-55: Οδός υποχρεωτικής διέλευσης πεζών (πεζόδρομος, απαγορευμένης της διέλευσης άλλων εκτός πεζών, οχημάτων άμεσης ανάγκης και οχημάτων για την είσοδο - έξοδο σε παρόδιες ιδιοκτησίες)». A driver who passes a Ρ-55 is by definition on a πεζόδρομος, so article 20 §4 reaches them whether or not the plate is also charged. This record therefore publishes the larger figure, as the corpus's Ναύπλιο page does for the same plate. ⚠️ It published €30 until 2026-09-28: the plate chain was measured and the street chain was not run at all. Nothing this project holds says which one an officer on South Pelion writes. Article 108 §1 ε) is what category Σ means: «κατηγορία Σ (αντικοινωνικής οδικής συμπεριφοράς)», antisocial road behaviour — and it is what makes even the cheap route carry forty days off the road. ⚠️ For a visitor in a hire car, the measure against the vehicle's registration documents is a matter between the renter and the rental company that the Code does not address.Source: Εθνικό Τυπογραφείο, read 2026-09-28

Article 7 §3 ξ) supplies the sign's own meaning — «Οδός υποχρεωτικής διέλευσης πεζών (πεζόδρομος, …)» — and its three carve-outs, and it is what joins the two routes. Article 20 §4, §8 β) and article 108 §5 γ) were located on the statute on 2026-09-28 in cycle 187 with scripts/grep-normalised.py; the rest on 2026-09-28 in cycle 186.

How to comply
  • In July and August, do not drive onto the shore road of Πλατανιάς between 21:00 and midnight. There is no ticket to buy and no permit to hold; it is simply a pedestrian street for those three hours.
  • 🔑 UNLESS YOU ARE GOING IN OR OUT OF A PROPERTY ON THAT ROAD — and that exemption is real, it just is not in the act. The sign ordered is Ρ-55, and ν. 5209/2025 article 7 §3 ξ) defines it as «Οδός υποχρεωτικής διέλευσης πεζών (πεζόδρομος, απαγορευμένης της διέλευσης άλλων εκτός πεζών, οχημάτων άμεσης ανάγκης και οχημάτων για την είσοδο - έξοδο σε παρόδιες ιδιοκτησίες)»: closed to everything except pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and vehicles entering or leaving a property on the street. If your room or your taverna is on the shore, the Code lets you reach it. A car looking for somewhere to park does not qualify.
  • The other twenty-one hours are open, and so are the other ten months. If you need to be on the shore road with a vehicle in high summer, do it before nine in the evening.
  • ⚠️ Do not go looking for a street sign with a name on it. The act names no street at all — it closes «την παραλιακή οδό … στα τμήματα εκατέρωθεν της Επαρχιακής οδού» — and measured against OpenStreetMap on 2026-09-28 the only named way in the whole settlement is «Προμύρι - Πλατανιάς», the road down from the village above. What marks the closure on the ground is the Ρ-55 signs, the informational plate under them with the hours and the months, metal barriers at the entrances and cones on the side streets.
  • 🔑 Expect a physical barrier, not just a sign. The act orders «κινητών διαχωριστικών παράκαμψης κυκλοφορίας (μεταλλικές μπάρες) με αντανακλαστικά αυτοκόλλητα στην είσοδο των πεζόδρομων» — movable metal bars with reflective stickers at the entrances — and cones on the perpendicular lanes. That is worth knowing at 21:00 on a dark shore road in a hire car.
  • 🚨 If you are stopped, the fine is trivial and the consequence is not. Measured on ν. 5209/2025 on 2026-09-28: article 7 §11 ζ) puts Ρ-55 in category Ε1-Α **and** in category Σ; article 108 §5 α) αα) prices Ε1-Α at «τριάντα (30) ευρώ»; and article 108 §5 δ) adds, for anything in category Σ, «το διοικητικό μέτρο αφαίρεσης της άδειας οδήγησης του οδηγού για σαράντα (40) ημέρες». Thirty euros and forty days without your licence. 🔑 Nothing in that chain had to be inferred: the act names the sign, the Code's list names the sign, and the tariff names both numbers.
  • An officer on the shore outranks the sign. Condition 3 applies the measures from the placing of the signs «εκτός αν κατά το χρόνο ισχύος των μέτρων αυτών η κυκλοφορία ρυθμίζεται από στελέχη της αρμόδιας Αστυνομικής Αρχής» — unless traffic is being directed by the police at the time.
  • ⚠️ Do not confuse this place with the other Πλατανιάς. The famous one is in Crete, west of Chania, 407 km away, and it is a municipality rather than a settlement. This one is at the southern tip of Pelion, in Δήμος Νοτίου Πηλίου, reached from Προμύρι. Measured on 2026-09-28: the geocoder's only candidate for the bare name «Πλατανιά» is the Cretan one.
  • ⚠️ Access for disabled people is ordered but not described. Condition 2 requires that the regulations «να υποστηρίζουν και τις ανάγκες των Ατόμων με Αναπηρία (ΑμεΑ)», and the act says nothing about how — no space, no route and no exemption is specified, so this record cannot tell a disabled driver what the arrangement is.
