Milan's own words are that public holidays are excluded (festivi), and the city publishes a calendar of the exact closure days. That calendar page refuses our reader, and we have found no other official, dated and reusable list of the public holidays currently in force in Italy. So on an Italian public holiday this page will say Area C is in force when the city says it is not. The error only ever runs that way — we would rather send you round the zone than into a fine.
The city's own www.comune.milano.it pages still refuse our reader with HTTP 403, and that is where the calendar of banned emission classes lives. Those two figures — petrol and diesel classes — still carry the date a person last read them, 2026-09-02, and cannot be renewed automatically.
The hours, the zone description and this summary now come from the Comune di Milano's own Area C service site at areac.atm-mi.it, which is readable and is checked automatically. The Comune is named there as the data controller and ATM as its processor, so it is the authority's channel, not a third party's.
Goods vehicles are barred from 08:00 to 10:00 on top of everything else, and vehicles over 7.5 m are barred outright. This timetable does not model either: it answers for the zone, not for your vehicle.
Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.
Area C is a limited-traffic zone in central Milan — the ZTL Cerchia dei Bastioni — that you must buy a daily ticket to enter. Forty-three electronic gates read number plates. It is active on working days, Monday to Friday, 07:30–19:30, and not on Italian public holidays.
Separately from the ticket, the most polluting vehicle classes are banned outright and cannot buy their way in, as are vehicles longer than 7.5 metres; goods vehicles are also barred between 08:00 and 10:00.

Area C is the limited traffic zone known as the Cerchia dei Bastioni, the ring of boulevards around the historic centre. It is bounded by 43 electronic camera gates, of which 6 are for public transport only and 1 is for permit holders only.

Petrol cars up to and including Euro 3 are banned: Euro 0, 1 and 2 were already banned, and Euro 3 has been banned since 1 October 2024. Euro 4 petrol is banned from 1 October 2027 and Euro 5 petrol from 1 October 2030.
Diesel cars up to and including Euro 5 are banned, whatever particulate filter they carry; the ban list runs from Euro 0 through Euro 5 diesel. Euro 6 diesel A-B-C is banned from 1 October 2028 and Euro 6 diesel D_TEMP and D from 1 October 2029.
The Comune di Milano pages read on 2026-09-02 do not state the fine for entering Area C without a valid ticket. Not estimated.

This page can only half re-check itself. Comune di Milano refuses our checker (last tried 2026-10-01), so 1 of 4 sources stand as a person last read them; the other 3 are still watched. Unless the blocked ones can be read again, we stop treating this page as current on 2026-12-01.
A city can run more than one scheme, and they do not always answer the same question.
