Genoa, Italy · Limited traffic zone
Official name Zona a Traffico Limitato telecontrollata "Boccadasse"
In force in Genoa right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 11:04 · Europe/Rome
Nothing here is conditional on the clock. The zone is valid on every day of the year through the whole 24 hours, so this timetable answers "in force" whenever it is asked. What decides a driver's case at Boccadasse is the plate, not the hour.
Public holidays make no difference to the ban, and the operator says so about the hardware as well as the rule: the electronic gates listed for the city are active every day 0–24, public holidays included. Holidays do narrow some permit classes, whose windows are written "giorni feriali" — working days — which makes those days stricter for a permit holder, not looser for anyone else.
⚠️ The one delivery window in the Genoese scheme is not here. Nervi's Oberdan zone lets goods vehicles in for delivery or distribution between 08:00 and 13:00; Boccadasse's chapter contains no such sentence, and a driver must not carry the Nervi hours across.
⚠️ The two published street lists for this zone do not match, and the mismatch is about where the ban applies rather than when. The operator's Confini page and §3.5.1 of the rulebook swap Via N. Dodero and Via della Scalinata between "inside the ZTL" and "residents may apply", name the upper stretch of Via Boccadasse from different junctions, and treat Via Aurora and Via al Capo di Santa Chiara with different precision. Both are watched. Until they agree, the wider reading is the safe one.
Boccadasse is one of nine Genoese ZTLs and a permit is issued for one ZTL or sector at a time. Centro Storico, Molo, Bolzaneto, Nervi (Gazzolo), Nervi (Oberdan), Rivarolo, Vernazzola and Caracciolo are separate zones with their own boundaries.
Genoa runs a second scheme over different ground and on its own terms: the restriction on the most polluting vehicles, whose outer area is the whole comune di Genova. The ZTL rulebook expressly excludes those areas from its own scope and states that the measure acts autonomously and alongside it. Being clear of this zone says nothing about that one, and this record does not hold it.
One thing we looked for and did not find, stated rather than guessed: the Disciplinare never mentions taxis or hire cars with driver among the ZTL's own categories — the word does not occur in its 54 pages. So we do not tell a driver that arriving by taxi is exempt from this ZTL; we do not know that from the publisher, and the gap is the publisher's, not a lapse in the search.
Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.
Boccadasse is the old fishing village inside Genoa — a handful of lanes dropping to a pebble cove at Piazza Nettuno — and the lanes are closed to unauthorised vehicles every day of the year through the whole 24 hours. There is no hour at which it opens. One camera watches it, in Via Boccadasse, and the operator states that every Genoese gate is live all days 0–24 including public holidays.
The camera reads plates remotely with nobody on the spot, so an unauthorised entry is not stopped at the gate: it is recorded and dealt with afterwards by post. Boccadasse is not a place to drive to.
It is small, it is steep, the zone has no public parking of its own inside it, and the only day permit the scheme sells here — €11.00, category BOC_01 — is written for two purposes that are not a visit: maintaining or laying up a boat at Piazza Bassano, and carrying bulky gear for the boatyards.
A visitor staying inside the zone gets in a different way and pays nothing for it: the accommodation holds an annual authorisation for its guests' cars and reports your plate to the operator within 48 hours of the entry.
Electric vehicles are free everywhere in the city on a free annual pass, and bicycles need nothing. ⚠️ One warning a driver cannot get from a map: the operator's boundary page and the rulebook it links do not list the same streets.
Two streets swap sides between them, one is named from a different junction and one loses its house numbers, so the safe reading is the wider one — treat every street either document names as inside, and see the area field for exactly which four disagree.
Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "ZTL Boccadasse", the zone page of the company the Comune di Genova names as the responsible office for ZTL access, read together with §3.5 of the Disciplinare it links and with the operator's gate and boundary pages, all cited separately below
There is no day ticket a visitor can buy, even though Boccadasse is one of only three Genoese zones that has a daily permit at all. The permit is real and it is priced: BOC_01, €11.00, valid for one day, and the rulebook and the operator agree on what it is for.
It may be requested by people who need to carry out maintenance or laying-up of boats at Piazza Bassano, and by people transporting bulky materials connected with nautical activity. That is the whole list.
It is a trade permit for the cove's boat owners and boatyards, not an entry ticket for someone who would like to see the village by car, and a visitor who turned up and offered €11.00 would have no category to be issued it under.
The route that does cover a visitor is bought by the accommodation and is annual rather than daily: €27.00 for a property with 1 to 10 rooms, €54.00 for 11 to 20 and €100.00 above 20 rooms, covering all of that property's accesses every day 00:00–24:00 and valid for the ZTL or sector it belongs to. The guest pays nothing and buys nothing.
Electric vehicles are free everywhere in the city, on a windscreen pass that is itself free.
All day, every day, all year. The operator and the rulebook say it in the same words — the ZTL "Boccadasse" is valid on every day of the year and through the whole 24 hours — and nothing takes it off for a weekday, a weekend, a holiday or a season. The gate agrees: Genova Parcheggi states that the electronic gates listed for the city are active every day 0–24, public holidays included.
So the hour you arrive decides nothing here; whether your plate is on the authorised list decides everything. Hours do appear in the scheme, but they belong to permit classes and are narrower than the zone rather than wider — wholesale customers 08:00–19:00 on working days, commercial agents 08:00–20:00 on working days, contracted services 06:00–20:00 on working days, garage customers 08:00–19:00 on working days.
Guests of accommodation and electric vehicles are the classes written 00:00–24:00. The zone's own extra category, the €11.00 daily boat permit, is not time-limited by the rulebook either. ⚠️ Boccadasse has no goods-delivery window.
Nervi's Oberdan zone has one — 08:00 to 13:00 — and it does not read across to here; nothing in Boccadasse's chapter opens the zone to anyone by the clock.

The lanes of the village down to the cove, published as a street list rather than a perimeter — and published twice, not quite the same way, which is the most important thing on this page. The governing rulebook lists the streets inside the ZTL as: Via Boccadasse in the stretch from Via N. Dodero to Piazza Nettuno; Piazza Nettuno; Via Aurora in the stretch joining Piazza Nettuno to Piazza E.
Bassano; Piazza E. Bassano; Via della Casa; and Via della Scalinata. It then lists, separately, the streets whose residents may apply for a permit without being inside the zone: Via Boccadasse from Via Beretta to Via N.
Dodero, Via al Capo di Santa Chiara at even numbers from 18 to the end and odd numbers from 5A to the end, and Via Aurora in the stretch joining Piazza Nettuno to Belvedere Firpo. The operator's own Confini page keeps the same two headings and moves four things between them. It puts Via N.
Dodero inside the zone, where the rulebook's list does not carry it at all. It moves Via della Scalinata out of the zone and down into the residents' list. It names the upper stretch of Via Boccadasse from Via Caprera rather than from Via Beretta.
And it drops the house numbers from Via al Capo di Santa Chiara, and leaves Via Aurora unqualified where the rulebook splits it into two named stretches. ⚠️ We do not resolve this and a driver should not either: treat every street named by either document as inside the zone, because the one reading that is never wrong is the wider one. One electronically controlled gate serves the zone, in Via Boccadasse.
Genoa's other eight ZTLs — Centro Storico, Molo, Bolzaneto, Nervi (Gazzolo), Nervi (Oberdan), Rivarolo, Vernazzola and Caracciolo — are separate ground, and this record does not hold them.
Comune di Genova, Direzione Smart Mobility — "Disciplina dell'accesso alle Zone a Traffico Limitato", §3.5.1.1 (streets inside the ZTL) and §3.5.1.2 (further areas entitled to apply), read against Genova Parcheggi's "Confini" page, which restates both lists differently. Both documents are watched, separately, so either one changing is visible

No Euro class lets a petrol car into Boccadasse and none keeps it out: entry here turns on authorisation, not on the exhaust. The rulebook never sets an emission floor for entering any Genoese ZTL, for any fuel. What fuel does decide is the electric case.
A fully electric vehicle has free access to every ZTL in Genoa on all days 00:00–24:00 for as long as the errand strictly needs — cars, motorcycles and mopeds alike, and goods vehicles on the same terms — and is issued a single free annual windscreen pass valid across the whole city.
The pass is obligatory even though the access is free, and where a tariff is scaled by how many vehicles a household declares, electric ones are not counted in.
Emission class does reach the price of a goods-vehicle permit, where methane, LPG, hybrid or electric pays €15.00 a year, Euro 3 or better €27.00, Euro 2 or Euro 1 €60.00 and pre-Euro €300.00 — but that is the cost of a trader's permit, not a threshold for getting in. ⚠️ Genoa's actual emissions restriction is a different scheme with its own order, and the ZTL rulebook expressly puts it outside its own scope and says it operates autonomously alongside.
This record does not hold it.
Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "Panoramica", the general principles of ZTL access that run across every Genoese zone: the electric-vehicle regime and the free annual pass valid city-wide
A diesel car stands exactly where a petrol one does: the Euro class changes nothing about whether it may enter Boccadasse, and authorisation decides. Diesel does not appear in the ZTL access rules at all.
What does bar a vehicle here, whatever it burns, is weight: chapter 2 of the rulebook states that every type of permit in the document is issuable only to vehicles whose laden mass does not exceed 3.5 tonnes, so there is no permit above that figure anywhere in the city. ⚠️ Do not import the other limit from Genoa's Molo and Centro Storico pages.
Those two zones publish a maximum width of 2.10 metres as well, and they are the only two — all eight of the operator’s zone pages were checked for that sentence on 2026-09-22 and six returned nothing, this one among them; Boccadasse's zone page does not, and the string does not occur anywhere in the rulebook's 54 pages — measured on 2026-09-22.
So we state the tonnage, which is sourced and general, and we do not state a width here, which would be a figure carried across from a different zone.
The lanes are narrow and steep regardless of what the rulebook says about them. ⚠️ The restriction that is about diesel in Genoa is the separate scheme under Ordinanza Sindacale 256/2025, which the ZTL rulebook excludes from its scope; do not read this field as saying an old diesel is free to drive in Genoa.
Comune di Genova, Direzione Smart Mobility — Determinazione Dirigenziale n. 2023-395.0.0.-3 of 06/07/2023 approving "Disciplina dell'accesso alle Zone a Traffico Limitato", chapter 2 general conditions, letter g) on the 3.5 tonne ceiling, and §1.1 on the scope of the rulebook
Genoa does not state a figure for the offence a visitor would actually commit, and we will not supply one. Driving into a ZTL without authorisation is an offence under the Codice della Strada, not under the city's rulebook, and the operator says only that an unauthorised entry "sarà segnalato per l'applicazione delle sanzioni previste" — reported for the application of the penalties provided for.
The 54-page Disciplinare uses the word "sanzione" exactly once, in that sentence, and prices nothing.
What is worth knowing instead is how the offence is detected here, because it changes what a driver should expect: the single camera in Via Boccadasse reads plates remotely with no officer present, so nobody stops you and nothing happens at the barrier — the operator states in as many words that the violation will be established later and without immediate challenge.
A driver can pass the gate, walk down for a gelato and hear about it by post weeks later.

Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "ZTL Boccadasse", the zone page. The operative statement for this zone: that it is valid every day of the year through the whole 24 hours, the remote camera enforcement with no immediate challenge, the list of free, contrassegno and paid categories including AUT_09, and the €11.00 daily permit with the two nautical purposes it is written for. Genova Parcheggi is the company the Comune di Genova names as the responsible office for ZTL access on its own service record
Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "Confini", the operator's own street-by-street delimitation of every Genoese ZTL. Its Boccadasse list is one of the two that disagree: it places Via N. Dodero inside the ZTL, places Via Della Scalinata in the residents' list, and names the upper stretch of Via Boccadasse from Via Caprera
Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "I Varchi elettronici", the operator's gate page: Boccadasse is watched by one camera, in Via Boccadasse, and every gate listed for the city is active on all days 0–24, public holidays included
Genova Parcheggi S.p.A. — "Panoramica", the general principles that run across every Genoese ZTL: the list of the zones, the electric-vehicle regime with its free annual pass, free access for cycles, the 48-hour regularisation for an unregistered vehicle of an authorised category, and the 3.5 tonne ceiling on every permit type
Comune di Genova — service record "Richiedere permesso di accesso ad Area ZTL". The freshest statement the authority itself makes about this scheme
Comune di Genova, Direzione Smart Mobility — Determinazione Dirigenziale n. 2023-395.0.0.-3, adopted and executive from 06/07/2023, approving the document "Disciplina dell'accesso alle Zone a Traffico Limitato". The governing instrument, 54 pages. §3.5 is Boccadasse's own chapter: the two street lists, the 24-hour validity, the reference to chapter 2 for general access, the two nautical purposes for the daily permit, and Tabella 23 pricing BOC_01 at €11.00
Next scheduled re-check: 2026-12-21.
A city can run more than one scheme, and they do not always answer the same question.
