Driving in Maranello: Low emission zone

Maranello, Italy · Low emission zone

Official name Limitazioni alla circolazione veicolare nel centro abitato di Maranello (MO) — misure per la qualità dell'aria 2026/2027 in attuazione del PAIR 2030 (Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026)

Partly in force in Maranello right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 11:04 · Europe/Rome

  • In force Monday to Friday, 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027: petrol, LPG/petrol and methane/petrol up to Euro 2; diesel up to Euro 4; mopeds and motorcycles up to Euro 2
  • Not in force Every Sunday of the season, on the wider list: the weekday classes plus diesel Euro 5

Lifts Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 18:30 local time.

🚨 The Sunday rule is a rule here and a list elsewhere, and that is the single most transferable error in this corner of the corpus. Point 3 declares every Sunday of the season an ecological Sunday and names no dates; Piacenza's order for the same season names twenty individual Sundays and leaves December empty. Neither timetable may be copied onto the other city.

The Sunday rule bans a wider set of vehicles than the weekday rule, because point 3 bans the vehicles of point 8 rather than the vehicles of point 1. The timetable cannot show a vehicle list, so a reader comparing only the windows would see two identical clocks and miss that diesel Euro 5 is caught on one of them.

Saturday carries no rule because the order never names Saturday in its circulation articles. That holds only while the emergency measures are off.

The emergency measures are not in this timetable and cannot be. Arpae issues the bulletin on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; when it calls for measures anywhere in the province of Modena the ban runs 08:00–19:00 from the following day until the next control day inclusive, on any day of the week, and reaches diesel Euro 5.

Strike days are not in this timetable for the same reason: the order suspends the ban on any day of a local public transport strike, and those are called at short notice.

🚨 Nor are the motoring events. Point 10 excludes from points 1, 3 and 8.1 the motoring events organised or sponsored by the Comune, "che di volta in volta verranno programmati" — programmed from time to time. The order publishes no dates, and inventing a window for them would be this project guessing at another body's diary. The exemption is stated in the record and the reader is sent to the organiser; it is deliberately absent from this timetable.

⚠️ This timetable is a clock. It says nothing about where you are, and here that matters more than usual: the delimited area is eight separate patches across the municipality, so a vehicle on the banned list can be outside the scheme entirely at every hour in this table.

The order's other measures are outside this timetable because they are not about driving: the heating-season start of 1 November 2026, the indoor temperature limits, the biomass and open-burning rules, the pellet certification duty and the shop-door closing duty all run on their own periods.

Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.

What applies

Maranello closes its built-up areas to older vehicles for the winter half of the year, from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 18:30, the ban catches petrol cars up to and including Euro 2, LPG/petrol and methane/petrol up to and including Euro 2, diesel cars up to and including Euro 4, and mopeds and motorcycles up to and including Euro 2. 🚨 Every Sunday of the season is an ecological Sunday — the order says so in as many words, "Tutte le domeniche comprese nel periodo 01/10/2026 – 31/03/2027 sono domeniche ecologiche" — and on those Sundays the ban runs on the wider emergency vehicle list, which reaches diesel Euro 5.

Nothing is on sale: there is no day ticket, no charge and no payable derogation. The fine is set by national law and the order states it, a range of €168 to €679, with fifteen to thirty days' licence suspension for a repeat offence within two years. 🔑 Two things here have no counterpart in the neighbouring records.

The first is where the ban applies: the order writes "the centro abitato of Maranello (MO)" in the singular, but the plan it attaches shows the delimited built-up area as eight separate patches lettered A to H, scattered across a large and mostly rural municipality, so this is a scheme covering several distinct settlements rather than one town centre.

The second is an exemption that fits the town: motoring events organised or sponsored by the council are excluded from the ban outright, "che di volta in volta verranno programmati" — programmed case by case, and therefore not something this page can put in a calendar.

Electric and hybrid vehicles, cars carrying at least three people, vehicles registered for specific transport or special uses, and vehicles enrolled in the regional Move-In telematics scheme are outside the ban altogether — and here, unlike in Piacenza, Move-In covers the Sundays and the emergency days as well.

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026, signed by the Mayor and published by Arpae Emilia-Romagna, the regional agency that collects the implementing ordinances of the municipalities bound by the PAIR 2030

Daily charge

Nothing is charged and nothing is on sale. The order bans the listed classes from circulating and then lists the vehicles and journeys that are excluded; there is no day ticket, no registration fee and no payable derogation a visitor could buy.

The one route by which a banned vehicle can be authorised is Move-In, the regional telematics scheme, which fits a black box and allows a monitored annual mileage allowance instead of a flat prohibition, on the terms of Annexes A, B and C to regional decision DGR n. 1493 of 22/09/2025 as applied here by the Comune's own earlier ordinance n.

169 of 29/09/2025. 🔑 Its reach is wider here than in the neighbouring records and the difference is in the order's own numbering: point 11 excludes Move-In vehicles from "i precedenti punti 1), 3) e 8.1)" — the weekday ban, the ecological Sundays AND the emergency measures.

Piacenza's order does the opposite and says Move-In vehicles "restano soggetti" on ecological Sundays and emergency days; Modena's excludes them from the weekday measures only. Three orders, three reaches, one season, one regional plan.

Move-In is in any case a scheme for vehicles registered in the participating regions rather than something a foreign visitor can buy on arrival, and neither the order nor the regional decision states a price in the documents read here, so none is given.

When it operates

Seasonal, and the season had not yet begun when this was read. The ban runs from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Monday to Friday the window is 08:30 to 18:30. 🚨 Every Sunday inside that period is caught, and the order states it as a rule rather than as a list of dates: "Tutte le domeniche comprese nel periodo 01/10/2026 – 31/03/2027 sono domeniche ecologiche, pertanto nella fascia oraria 8:30 – 18:30 è fatto divieto di circolazione dei veicoli a motore di cui al successivo punto 8".

Note where that sends the reader — point 8 is the emergency article, so the Sunday vehicle list is the wider one and it reaches diesel Euro 5. Saturday carries no ordinary ban; the order never names it.

The whole of the circulation ban is lifted on days when local public transport is on strike and on six named days: 1 November, 8 December, 25 December and 26 December 2026, and 1 January and 6 January 2027. ⚠️ That list is six days long and the two neighbouring orders for the same season are not: Piacenza's is seven and adds 29 March 2027, Modena's is eight and adds 31 January, 28 March and 29 March 2027.

None of the three can be read off another. Separately, the region's emergency measures can be triggered on any day of the week: they run 08:00 to 19:00 and reach diesel Euro 5, they start the day after Arpae's bulletin and last until the next control day inclusive, and Arpae issues that bulletin on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The trigger here is measured across the whole province — the order requires the bulletin to indicate the need for measures "nell'ambito territoriale della Provincia di Modena", not in Maranello itself.

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026, points 1, 2, 3 and 8

Area covered

The centro abitato of Maranello (MO) — and the singular in the order's own wording is misleading on its own. Points 1, 3 and 8.1 all bite "nell'area del centro abitato di Maranello (MO), come da planimetria allegata", and point 9 fixes that area as the one "individuata nella planimetria costituente l'allegato n. 1". 🚨 That plan, read on 2026-09-28, does not show one town centre.

It is a map of the whole municipality on which the delimited built-up area appears as eight separate shaded patches, keyed in the legend by the letters A to H and each tied to a place name, with the municipal boundary drawn around them as a dotted line.

The largest sits in the north of the comune; the rest are smaller settlements spread down a long, hilly territory, several of them kilometres apart with open country between. So this scheme is not one perimeter a driver crosses once.

It is a set of separate built-up areas, and a driver can be inside the ban, outside it, and inside it again on a single journey across the municipality. 🔑 The plan also states what puts a driver inside one, and it is the most useful sentence on it: a centro abitato is an area "delimitato lungo le vie di accesso dagli appositi segnali di inizio e fine" — bounded on its approach roads by the begin and end signs.

Those signs are on the ground, and they are the practical test. ⚠️ The eight place names are legible only as a picture. The order's own text layer does not contain a single one of them, and this record does not transcribe them from the scan: an OCR reading is our transformation of a drawing, not the publisher's text.

What is recorded is the structure — eight separate areas — which is a count of lettered markers rather than a reading of small type.

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026 points 1, 3, 8.1 and 9, read together with Allegato 1, the plan "Delimitazione del centro abitato (art. 4)" bound into the same PDF

Why there is no map here
The perimeter is published and it was opened and looked at before this status was written, which is what D-321 point 7 requires. scripts/pdf-images.py reports two image objects in the order: object 113 at 120 × 101 px, the municipal crest, and object 37 at 2370 × 3071 px, DCTDecode, 438 062 bytes — a full-page raster. Written out and read on 2026-09-28, object 37 is Allegato 1: a scanned paper sheet, fold creases visible across it, headed "Comune di Maranello / Provincia di Modena / Nuovo codice della strada: Delimitazione del centro abitato (art. 4)". It is a picture of a map, not data: there is no coordinate reference system, the sheet's printed scale runs off the right edge of the raster, and the monitor's text extractor cannot see a single word of it — "Delimitazione del centro abitato" returns [MISS] while eighteen other needles from the same file return [OK]. Tracing a boundary off a scan and serving it as the line that decides whether a visitor's older car is committing an offence would be this project's drawing, not the Comune's. 🔑 What the drawing does settle, and what has been taken from it, is structural rather than typographic: the delimited built-up area is not one polygon but eight separate shaded patches, keyed A to H in the legend and scattered across the municipality inside a dotted municipal boundary. That is a count of lettered markers, robust at the resolution available, and it changes how the scheme reads — the order's singular "area del centro abitato" would otherwise be taken for one town centre. ⚠️ The eight place names in the legend are deliberately NOT transcribed: they are legible only as an image, the order's own text layer contains none of them, and reading them off the scan would be our OCR of a picture rather than the publisher's text. ⚠️ One further observation is recorded with its uncertainty rather than as a fact: the sheet carries a handwritten annotation in red ink that reads as "G.C. 159 18/11/2008", which would point to a Giunta Comunale decision of 2008 as the act that delimited the centro abitato, in the way Piacenza's order cites D.G.C. n. 216/2002 for the same purpose. It is handwriting on a scan and nothing in the order's text corroborates it, so it is noted here as a lead for a later cycle and is not published as the delimiting instrument. Maranello is warned from its city anchor instead.

The authority's own map: Comune di Maranello (MO)

Petrol standard

Petrol cars of Euro 0, Euro 1 and Euro 2 are banned — "veicoli alimentati a benzina EURO 0, EURO 1 ed EURO 2, non conformi alla direttiva 98/69/A CE e successive o alla direttiva 99/96/A CE e successive" — so a petrol car needs to be Euro 3 or better. Bi-fuel vehicles running on LPG/petrol or methane/petrol are treated identically and banned up to and including Euro 2.

Mopeds are banned up to and including Euro 2 where they do not comply with Directive 2013/60/EC or later, and motorcycles up to and including Euro 2 where they do not comply with Directive 2003/77/EC or later. None of these four lines moves anywhere in the scheme: they are caught at Euro 2 on weekdays, on every Sunday of the season and while the emergency measures are running alike.

It is only the diesel line that moves.

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026, point 1 letters a), b), d) and e) for the weekday list and point 8.1 for the list that also governs Sundays

Diesel standard

Diesel cars are banned up to and including Euro 4 from Monday to Friday — point 1 letter c), "veicoli diesel EURO 0, EURO 1, EURO 2, EURO 3 ed EURO 4 non conformi alla direttiva 2005/55/CE B2 e successive o alla direttiva 99/96 fase III oppure Riga B2 o C e successive" — so a diesel needs to be Euro 5 or better on a weekday. 🚨 On every Sunday of the season the line moves one class further and Euro 5 is banned as well, and the route to that answer is a cross-reference rather than a second list: point 3 declares every Sunday an ecological Sunday and bans "i veicoli a motore di cui al successivo punto 8", and point 8.1 is the emergency list, "veicoli diesel EURO 0, EURO 1, EURO 2, EURO 3, EURO 4 ed EURO 5 non conformi al regolamento 715/2007*692/2008 (Euro 6 A o Euro 6 B)".

The same Euro 5 extension therefore applies both on Sundays and whenever the emergency measures are running.

A Euro 5 diesel is legal here on a Tuesday and illegal on every Sunday from October to March, and only a Euro 6 diesel is clear of every list. ⚠️ A reader who has seen that Italian national law set a structural Euro 5 diesel limitation from 1 October 2026 should note that it does not reach Maranello either, and not for the reason they might assume: the national duty in Legge n.

105 of 18 July 2025 is aimed at municipalities over 100,000 inhabitants, and Emilia-Romagna in any case dispensed with the structural limitation by DGR n. 1505 of 07/09/2026, which this order cites in its own subject line. Euro 5 is caught here by the calendar, not by a structural rule.

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026, point 1 letter c), point 3 and point 8.1, with the subject line and preamble for the L.R. 9/2026 and DGR 1505/2026 chain

Penalty if you do not comply
€168.00 The order sets a range, not a fixed sum: under "art. 7 comma 13 bis del vigente Codice della Strada" a breach of the circulation limits carries an "amministrativa pecuniaria da € 168,00 a € 679,00, salvo adeguamenti previsti ai sensi dell'articolo 195 del D. Lgs. 30/04/1992, n. 285" — those amounts are revised nationally for inflation every two years. A repeat offence within two years also carries suspension of the driving licence for fifteen to thirty days. Payment is due within sixty days of the notice, and the order adds that a late payment is increased by 20% when the payment injunction is issued. The order's other measures carry their own separate penalties, which are not the circulation fine: open burning in breach of points 4.3 and 4.4 runs from €300 to €3,000, and a shopkeeper who breaches the door-closing duty from €50 to €500. ⚠️ Enforcement is unusually widely delegated. Alongside the road-police bodies of article 12 of the Highway Code and the Corpo di Polizia Locale, the order names "le Guardie Ecologiche volontarie di Legambiente (GEL)" — volunteer ecological guards of an environmental association — among those charged with carrying it out. 🔑 That this order states a figure at all is worth knowing beside the neighbouring records: Modena's order for the same season names the same €168 to €679 range under the same article, while Piacenza's refers only to Law 689/1981 and to articles 7 and 157 of the Highway Code and names no amount, which is why the Piacenza record carries none.Source: Comune di Maranello, read 2026-09-28

Comune di Maranello (MO) — Ordinanza n. 142 del 24/09/2026, sanctions article letters a) to d), and the execution article naming the enforcing bodies

How to comply
  • Check the date and the day. The scheme is dormant from 1 April to 30 September and bites from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027, Monday to Friday 08:30–18:30. Saturday carries no ordinary ban.
  • 🚨 Every Sunday of the season is caught, and Sundays are stricter than weekdays. The order declares all of them ecological Sundays and bans the wider emergency vehicle list, so a diesel that is legal on Friday is banned on Sunday. ⚠️ Do not carry a neighbouring city's calendar here: Piacenza names twenty individual Sundays and has none in December, and this order names none because it catches them all.
  • Work out your Euro class. Banned on weekdays: petrol, LPG/petrol and methane/petrol up to Euro 2; diesel up to Euro 4; mopeds and motorcycles up to Euro 2. On Sundays and during emergency measures, diesel Euro 5 is banned too. There is no ticket, no permit and no payment that changes it.
  • 🔑 Work out where you are, because "the centro abitato of Maranello" is not one place. The plan attached to the order shows the delimited built-up area as eight separate patches spread across a large, hilly municipality. On the ground the test is the sign: a centro abitato is bounded on its approach roads by the begin and end signs, so watch for them rather than assuming the ban stops when the town does.
  • Watch the emergency bulletin if you are driving an older car in a cold spell, and watch it for the whole province of Modena rather than for Maranello. Arpae publishes it on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; the measures start the day after and run to the next control day inclusive, at 08:00–19:00, reaching diesel Euro 5.
  • The fine is €168 to €679 under article 7 paragraph 13-bis of the Highway Code, with fifteen to thirty days' licence suspension for a repeat offence within two years. Pay within sixty days: later than that and the amount goes up by 20%.
  • If you are coming for a motoring event, check whether the council is behind it. The order excludes from the ban motoring events organised or sponsored by the Comune — but it programmes them case by case and publishes no list in the order, so this page cannot tell you whether the day you are travelling is one of them. Ask the organiser or the Comune before assuming your car is covered.
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles are never caught, and neither are cars carrying at least three people where the vehicle is approved for four or more seats — two people where it is approved for two or three. Vehicles registered for specific transport or special uses are outside the ban as well.
  • 🔑 Move-In goes further here than elsewhere in the region. The order excludes enrolled vehicles from the weekday ban, the ecological Sundays and the emergency measures alike. If you have read that Move-In stops working on a Sunday, that is Piacenza's rule, not this one.
  • A disabled person's parking badge issued under D.P.R. 151/2012 exempts the vehicle serving them, and so do journeys carrying someone to urgent or scheduled medical treatment, home-care patients and their carers, and blood donors on the day of donation. Emergency, rescue, breakdown-recovery, public-security and utility-maintenance vehicles are exempt, as are buses and school buses, doctors and vets on urgent home visits with their professional badge, vehicles carrying perishable goods or medicines, vehicles going to a booked roadworthiness test, market and fair traders, and lorries over 3.5 tonnes limited to the run between their operator's base and the roads outside the ban.
  • Historic vehicles get less than you might expect: registration in ASI, Storico Lancia, Italiano Fiat, Italiano Alfa Romeo or Storico FMI exempts the vehicle only for organised events, not for ordinary driving.
  • Staying in the zone? A vehicle serving someone lodged at hotel-type accommodation inside the delimited areas is exempt for the journey to and from the accommodation itself, provided the property is inside the Comune. Carry the booking, or send the Corpo di Polizia Municipale within the following ten days an attestation stamped by the property or a copy of its invoice showing your name and the vehicle's plate.
  • Strikes and six named days lift the ban outright: 1 November, 8 December, 25 December and 26 December 2026, and 1 January and 6 January 2027. ⚠️ Easter Monday is not among them here, though the Piacenza and Modena orders both exempt 29 March 2027.
