Rome, Italy · Limited traffic zone
Partly in force in Rome right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 11:04 · Europe/Rome

Rome's own words are that both ZTLs exclude public holidays (festivi). We have found no official, dated and reusable list of the public holidays currently in force in Italy, so we cannot apply that exclusion. On an Italian public holiday this page will say the ZTL is active when the city says it is not. The error only ever runs that way.
The night-time window runs from 23:00 into the small hours of the following day, and is counted against the evening it starts on.
That makes one night ambiguous: a window opening at 23:00 on 31 July runs into 1 August. We could not establish from the source which side of the August suspension that single night falls, so we still show it as active rather than risk telling you the ZTL is off when it is not.
Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.
Rome's historic centre is closed to vehicles without a permit for most of the working day: 06:30–18:00 Monday to Friday and 14:00–18:00 on Saturday, public holidays excluded. A separate night-time ZTL closes it 23:00–03:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, and is not active during August. Cameras at the gates read number plates, and this is the scheme that catches visitors who follow a satnav straight into the centre.
It is one of five limited traffic zones in central Rome and is separate from the city-wide Fascia Verde emissions zone.
Roma Servizi per la Mobilità (Roma Capitale)
There is no ticket a visitor can buy. Access is by permit, granted to residents and specific categories, not sold for a day. Milan's Area C works the other way round; Rome's ZTL does not.
Daytime ZTL: 06:30–18:00 Monday to Friday and 14:00–18:00 on Saturday, public holidays excluded. Night-time ZTL: 23:00–03:00 on Friday and Saturday, public holidays excluded, and not active at all during August.
Roma Servizi per la Mobilità (Roma Capitale)
The Roma Servizi per la Mobilità page read on 2026-09-02 states the hours and the permit rules but does not describe the Centro Storico boundary in words; it points to separate maps. Not restated from general knowledge.
The authority's own map: Roma Capitale — Geoportale
Not applicable: the Centro Storico ZTL restricts access by permit and time of day, not by emissions. Rome's emissions rules are the separate Fascia Verde scheme, which has its own record.
Not applicable: see the note on the petrol standard.
The page read on 2026-09-02 does not state the fine for entering without a permit. Not estimated.

A city can run more than one scheme, and they do not always answer the same question.
