Driving in Amsterdam

Netherlands: 1 scheme to know about before you drive in.

The short answer for Amsterdam

Amsterdam has one driving restriction on our books: the Milieuzone Amsterdam (low emission zone). What is a low emission zone?

What it means for your car

Petrol or LPG. No restriction. Petrol and LPG cars and vans, and electric ones, may enter every Dutch milieuzone whatever their age.
Diesel. Diesel cars and vans need emission class 5 or higher. Emission classes 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not allowed in. This is the "blue" milieuzone standard, which Amsterdam shares with Arnhem and Utrecht.
