Driving in Seville: ZBE Cartuja

Seville, Spain · Low emission zone

Official name Zona de Bajas Emisiones de la Isla de la Cartuja

In force in Seville right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 11:04 · Europe/Madrid

Lifts Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 19:00 local time.

Whether the zone reaches you depends on the vehicle's DGT label, which this timetable does not check. A labelled vehicle is unaffected at every hour.

The city excepts public holidays and Spain's holiday calendar is not held in this record, so no verdict is given for one.

Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.

What applies

Seville's low emission zone covers the Isla de la Cartuja, not the historic centre a visitor might expect. It is in force on weekdays only, 07:00 to 19:00, and not on public holidays. The vehicles it keeps out are the ones too old for a DGT environmental label — in the city's own words, principally petrol cars registered before 2000 and diesel before 2006.

Cameras read the plates, and since July 2024 unauthorised entries are reported and fined rather than merely noted.

We have not yet looked through the Ayuntamiento de Sevilla's own channels for a machine-readable outline of the Cartuja zone.
Petrol standard

The city describes the banned vehicles as principally petrol cars registered before the year 2000. Those are the ones that receive no DGT environmental label at all.

Penalty if you do not comply

The Ayuntamiento says unauthorised entries have been reported and sanctioned since July 2024 but does not state the amount on the pages read on 2026-09-12. Not estimated.

How to comply
  • Check the year first: a petrol car from 2000 onwards or a diesel from 2006 onwards is generally outside the ban, because it carries a DGT environmental label.
  • The restriction only bites on weekdays between 07:00 and 19:00. Evenings, weekends and public holidays are unrestricted.
  • Driving to a public pay-and-display car park inside the zone is allowed with no paperwork: the destination is matched against the plate the cameras capture.
  • Emergency and medical vehicles need no procedure, provided the use is recorded in the last two digits of the classification code on the vehicle's technical sheet.
  • Other exceptions are by prior authorisation and mostly local: residents accredited at the Distrito Municipal de Triana, businesses inside the zone, goods vehicles over 12,000 kg, vehicles carrying a person with reduced mobility, and municipal or wedding vehicles.
  • If your vehicle is banned but you have a space in a private company car park inside the zone, you may enter without limitation once authorised.
