Driving in Zaragoza: ZBE

Zaragoza, Spain · Low emission zone

Official name Zona de Bajas Emisiones de Zaragoza — ZBE Primera Fase (Casco Histórico)

In force in Zaragoza right nowTuesday, 13 October 2026 at 11:02 · Europe/Madrid

Lifts Tuesday, 13 October 2026 at 20:00 local time.

Whether the zone reaches you depends on the DGT environmental label, which this timetable does not check. A vehicle with a B, C, ECO or 0 label is unaffected at every hour.

It restricts the inside of the ring. Driving along the perimeter streets is allowed at every hour, whatever this timetable says is in force.

The city excepts public holidays and Spain's holiday calendar is not held in this record, so no verdict is given for one.

A second Zaragoza zone, ZBE Segunda Fase (Centro), is already in the ordinance with the same 08:00–20:00 weekday window but does not begin until 1 January 2030. Nothing in this timetable covers it.

Operating times only, read from the source below. It does not check your vehicle.

What applies

Zaragoza's low emission zone is the mildest setting a Spanish ZBE has: a car with any DGT environmental label at all — B, C, ECO or 0 — drives in freely and needs no registration. Only a vehicle with no label is kept out, and only on weekdays between 08:00 and 20:00. Outside those hours, at weekends and on public holidays the city says access is free for every vehicle.

Two things a map would get wrong. The streets that form the perimeter are themselves outside the ban, so you may drive along them without registering; only the inside of the ring is restricted. And a car that does not qualify can still be registered for up to eight single days a month with no reason given at all.

Enforcement is real rather than pending: the city's own announcement of 11 December 2025 says the sanctioning regime switched on the following day.

Daily charge

There is no charge of any kind. A vehicle either carries a DGT environmental label, or holds one of the registered authorisations, or stays out during the restricted hours. The nearest thing to a day pass is free: a vehicle with no label can be granted single-day access up to eight times a month, and the city asks for no justification for it.

When it operates

Monday to Friday, 08:00–20:00. Outside those hours, at weekends and on public holidays access is free for every vehicle.

Area covered

The inside of the historic-centre ring formed by Paseo Echegaray y Caballero, Calle San Vicente de Paúl, Calle del Coso, Plaza de España, Calle Conde de Aranda, Calle Mayoral, Plaza de Santo Domingo and Calle Ramón Celma Bernal, closing back onto Paseo Echegaray y Caballero.

The perimeter streets themselves are not restricted: the city states that vehicles may drive along them freely with no prior registration, and that registration is only needed to enter the inside of the ring. A second and larger zone, ZBE Segunda Fase (Centro), is already written into the same ordinance with its own perimeter and does not start until 1 January 2030.

Petrol standard

Zaragoza sets no year and no Euro class of its own. Annex 2 of the ordinance gives free access to cycles, bicycles, personal mobility vehicles and "los vehículos con distintivo ambiental B, C, ECO y 0" — so the ban falls on petrol cars that qualify for no DGT environmental label at all.

The city does not publish the registration-year equivalence of those labels on any page read here, and this record does not supply one.

Diesel standard

The same single test applies to diesel: the ordinance's Annex 2 admits vehicles carrying DGT label B, C, ECO or 0 and bans the rest, without distinguishing fuel anywhere. A diesel with a B label is treated exactly like a petrol car with a B label. As with petrol, the city states no registration-year threshold and none is inferred here.

How to comply
  • Check the label first. A car carrying any DGT environmental label — B, C, ECO or 0 — enters freely and must not register; the city says a labelled vehicle cannot obtain a registration authorisation even if it asks.
  • Display the sticker. A vehicle entitled to a label must show it on the windscreen; failing to is a separate and lighter offence.
  • Check the clock. The restriction runs Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00 only. An unlabelled car may enter between 20:00 and 08:00, and at any hour on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.
  • Driving along the ring is not entering it. The perimeter streets are outside the restriction and need no registration.
  • If your car has no label and you need to go inside during the restricted hours, the municipal register is the only route: garage space, commercial premises, resident's parking card, reduced-mobility transport, emergency and essential services, historic vehicles, adapted taxis, and vehicles entering a car park or hotel whose access control is wired to the zone.
  • A foreign-plate car needs the register even if it would qualify. The city lists "vehículos de matrícula extranjera" among those needing an annual renewable authorisation, because the DGT database cannot see them — meeting the emissions requirement is not enough on its own.
  • With no other reason at all, an unlabelled vehicle can be authorised for single days, up to eight a month.
  • If you enter by mistake, leave. The ordinance requires the control system to let an unauthorised vehicle out within at least 15 minutes without a penalty.
