3 schemes in 3 cities. Every figure comes from an official source and is re-checked.
Belgium has 3 driving restrictions that we have checked against an official source, in 3 cities. All are low emission zones.
This page lists no country-wide requirement for Belgium. Anything owed before you reach a city is not covered here, so check the national road authority before you leave.
The sources for this country were read on 2026-09-02, from Stad Antwerpen (Slim naar Antwerpen), Vlaamse overheid (vlaanderen.be) and Brussels Fiscality / Brussels-Capital Region. Each check is repeated on a schedule, and a rule we can no longer confirm comes down instead of staying up.
| Scheme | City | Kind | Fine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lage-emissiezone (LEZ) Antwerpen | Antwerp | Low emission zone | €150.00 |
| Low Emission Zone (LEZ) Brussels | Brussels | Low emission zone | €350.00 |
| Lage-emissiezone (LEZ) Gent | Ghent | Low emission zone | not in our sources |
Antwerp's inner city and Linkeroever are a low emission zone, in force 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Compliant vehicles pay nothing, but a foreign-registered vehicle has to be registered once, free of charge, before it is allowed in — vehicles registered in the Netherlands are the exception and need no registration.
Flanders scrapped the tightening that had been planned for 2026, so Euro 5 diesel and Euro 2 petrol are still admitted.
Penalty €150.00
The whole Brussels-Capital Region is a low emission zone, active every day of the week, 24 hours a day. Compliant vehicles pay nothing. If you drive a foreign-registered vehicle you must register it before entering — even if it meets the emission standards — or you risk a €150 fine on top of anything else.
Penalty €350.00
Ghent operates a low emission zone — it and Antwerp are the only two cities in Flanders that do. Flemish LEZs are in force seven days a week, around the clock, and a foreign-registered vehicle has to be registered before it may enter. We have NOT been able to read Ghent's own access thresholds from an official source, so this page does not state which Euro standards get in.
Check the City of Ghent's own pages before you drive.
